Guitar
Dear readers,
I spent 5 hours in the Science Library, 6th floor, just now. That means I stared at the computer for 5 hours non-stop too. But thank God I finished my part for the computing project. That's one item down! yay!
My cell group members are all getting new guitars. If not new, they are getting usable guitars. Being a cell group guitarist, and having the most number of guitars at home, I must say that I'm paiseh to say that I don't have any usable guitar at home. Ironic? Maybe.
Anyway, I was kind of upset for a very short while because of that. Yilin told me that I shouldn't look at what I don't have and feel that I'm shortchanging God and people. In fact, I've never really thought of it that way. It never crossed my mind that I don't have what I should have. I just felt a bit upset because I'm using other people's guitar. Ermm... I should say that its as simple as that. Probably there's more to it, but I haven't realised yet.
In any case, while talking to her, I realised something about being a cell group guitarist. Yilin said its not all about what guitar I use, but its the anointing of God in the room. Yes, it's definitely true. I know that and I know that. I've heard that many times and I must say that I really know that. If you had heard me teach someone guitar, you would know how important I think the anointing of God is, above everything else.
So now, its not just the matter of the anointing of God. I don't mean to say that I'm full of the anointing of God. No. I still have to keep praying and pray for more of the anointing of God. I still need to keep having revelations so that I can give more to the people and more to God.
Other than the anointing, playing the guitar is a performance. Let's say its not playing for cell group meeting. Let's say its really a performance on stage. You are playing for thousands of people. You are doing a recording. You are showing others your skills.
This means impacting lives. When you play for people, you are impacting them. When you are doing a recording, you are leaving a lasting impression. When you are showing others your skills, you are tell others what God has done in you.
Imagine you are performing. You wouldn't be sloppy. You wouldn't dress uglily; you wouldn't use a lousy, out of tune guitar; you wouldn't give a substandard performance; you wouldn't go on stage without first practising/rehearsing; you wouldn't get to sell your album if you didn't record the same song again and again.
Similarly, playing guitar for cell group means to have a spirit of excellence. To play the guitar as if you are playing guitar on stage, for a prominent singer (etc.). To play the guitar in cell group, is playing guitar for God, our Guest-of-Honour. You would do all the preparations you need. Get the best guitar you can. Polish your skills as much as possible. Because you are playing for the King of Kings. Nothing should be sloppy. Nothing should be substandard.
This message is probably written for N250 too. I pray that as you guys learn to play the guitar, this may also get into your hearts. The reason for learning guitar. Let it not just be for your own praise and worship at home. Let it be a dream, a vision and a desire to use the skill to perform for God and to serve His people. Let it be a conviction in your heart that you learn guitar so that you may SERVE GOD.
