Hi all,

As promised from my last entry, I've just created a new blog all on gemology. As I'm not a gemologist graduate or a certified gemologist etc, all the entries on gemology or things related to it are my own personal researches and thoughts and opinions.

However, I hope that my dear readers would still be able to receive information from those entries.

I would also try to post pictures up as much as I can (cos many are copyrighted. :) ).

Of course, not forgetting my own personal blog entries (here!). I've got photos here and there, all over the place!!! Haven't got the time or the chance to sort them out properly.

Alright, some people may not know what's "gemology". So it is basically the "study of gems". What are gems? They are natural stones. You may be familiar with the terms "diamonds", "ruby", "sapphires", "emeralds". So these are natural stones, and collectively they are called GEMS.

These may be called "precious stones". Others may like to call less well-known stones "semi-precious stones". Examples are such as tourmaline, garnet, spinel and moonstone. However, the term "semi-precious" is not an accurate description. This is because, in every species of stone, there are many "breeds". For example, in garnets, there are rarer forms with regards to its colour and its origin. Hence, these are cheaper and are precious. In "precious stones" such as ruby and sapphires, there are lower quality ones with regards to its colour, cut and clarity (and also carat and demand). So are these lower quality, cheap rubies and sapphires "semi-precious"? Definitely not.

Therefore, the conclusion is that all natural stones are PRECIOUS.
